Club Notes 2nd September
Racing
All roads led to Kilmallock on Sunday for Rás Cill Mocheallóg with 5 North Tipp Wheelers in action in this, the first race in Kilmallock in over 20 years. In the A4 Race, which took in 2 laps of the hilly circuit, Eoin Woolley, Dan Hogan, Julie White and Sinnead Oakes lined out to contest over 55km. On the first lap the hill at Ballorgan saw the field split into two main groups, the A4 main bunch and a chasing group which included most of the ladies who started the day. Both Eoin and Dan finished the race, however weren’t in the placings. The ladies prize was decided by a bunch sprint which Julie White narrowly took ahead of Nicola Doherty of Coachford CC, Monika Kotica from Seven Springs CC and our own Sinnead Oakes.
Meanwhile in the A3 race, our only representative, Liam Callaghan was taking on the challenge of 4 grueling laps of the circuit, 100km in total. A group of 5 broke and took a decent lead which they held until the end. Liam worked hard and finished in the main bunch. He took a fantastic 10th prize in the race. Well done to Liam and to all who took part and a big thanks to Kilmallock Cycling Club for hosting a challenging and safe race for all. More photos from the race here.
Next up the Charleville 2 day next weekend. Good luck to all taking part.
Wheelers on Tour
A number of Wheelers took part in the Upperchurch Drombane sportive on Sunday. Well done to Paddy Rohan who took the prize for the first person up Dolla – all the motor pacing earlier in the year paid off for Paddy yesterday but he’s too shy to send us a picture of his trophy! Well done Paddy. If anyone has any pictures from this or other tours, please send them to info@northtippwheelers.com or post them on Facebook.
Sunday Spin
Numbers were low for the leisure group again this Sunday with only 3 out. The route was from Nenagh to Capparoe, Silvermines, Dolla, Templederry, Curragaha Cross and back to Nenagh approximately 50km.
The faster group covered over 90km and the route is outlined in the map below, courtesy of Pat Bergin. The average speed was just under 30kph.
Don’t forget our All Together Spin on Sunday 22nd September. See you all there!
Weekday Spins
In addition to the usual Tuesday evening spin which departs Moynan’s at 6pm, there will be a Club spin on Thursdays also leaving Moynan’s at 6pm. As the evenings are starting to close in, please ensure you are there early so we can leave at 6. All are welcome.
