Club notes
We hope that you all had a great week out on the bikes and what a great way to finish the week off with our club tour today!
Tuesday evening last we had our normal club spin that left Moynans at 6.30pm with about 20 cyclists out on the night and the lads and ladies got in a fine spin of about 65km taking in the Shalee climb. We also had great representation of 12 members at the Limerick League race and Owen Hynes finished 5th with Nanno Vuyk on his wheel taking 6th and Charlie Hogan just behind. A very strong showing from the lads with 3 placing in the top 10 and more not far behind at all!! Great stuff altogether guys!! Wednesday we had our intermediate spin that left Moynans at 7pm.
Thursday evening we had the fourth road race in the series. We had a great but windy evening and 15 club members out racing. The race was 30km in distance and started at the top of the Cloughjordan road, on to Cloughjordan, left for Modreeny and left onto the Old Birr Road with the finish line at Sloe Lane (Rathnaleen). Very well done to Liam Callaghan for taking the win with Pat Bergin and Owen Hynes taking the other steps of the podium on the night. Well done to everyone who raced, ye are all doing fantastic so keep up the good work. You can read the full race report of the evening here.

The group that would contest the sprint finish of NTW Road Race 4, R to L: Pat Bergin, David Kyle, Eoin Woods, Liam Callaghan(Winner) and Owen Hynes.
Thanks go out to Vic for the photographs, Jan for timekeeping and Conor for marshalling, all your help is very much appreciated.
Due to the club tour on Sunday, five of the lads got in a fine race training spin on Friday evening, instead of Saturday, of over 70km in some tough conditions, well done guys.
Sunday we had our highly anticipated annual club tour of Lough Derg. It was a fantastic spin, we knew it would be popular but didn’t realise how many people would turnout! We are overwhelmed with the support from people and cycling clubs all over the country so a huge thank you to all who attended and also everyone who helped run this great event, Motor Bike Marshals, Lead cars, Broomwagon, Catering Girls, Photographers, Gardai, the Lakeside Hotel, the Ambulance service and thanks to everyone that gave their time to help. It is very much appreciated!!
It was a wet start to the morning but thankfully it dried off just in time for the off and we were very lucky to mostly avoid all the showers going around during the day. It was a hive of activity at the Lakeside Hotel and we ended up having our best ever sign on for the event with about 200 cyclists making the effort to join us on the day which was fantastic, so we thank you all. We also had a collection on the morning for the charity North Tipperary Hospice and we’re sure they will very much appreciate all your very generous donations. We had 2 groups on the morning and our ever improving leisure/intermediate cyclists (along with help from some of the senior lads) were setting a strong pace but making sure everyone was happy and that the group stuck together. They set some great times on the way out with the wind helping… The fast group went off and set some records!! An hour & 25mins from Killaloe to Portumna… unbelievable stuff lads and ladies so well done!! There was a great food stop in Portumna where there was a huge array of goodies on offer for the hungry cyclists and a big thanks to Selina, Tracy, Jan and Aggie for their invaluable help at the stop and thanks also to all our members who were very busy baking such delicious goodies for everyone to enjoy. After the bellies were full again, the two groups then set off back towards Nenagh and took on the undulating hills around Ballinderry and Terryglass, everyone regrouped when they got to Puckane, which was a most welcome break for some! 🙂 From there to Nenagh in the fast group, it was kept reasonably restrained… (some mightn’t agree… 😀 ) but once they turned for Portroe, all hell broke loose and it turned into a race! There were a few attacks which eventually stuck and it was hell for leather the whole way back to Ballina! Everyone agreed there was something there to suit everyone on our spin and everyone seemed to very much enjoy the challenge! Afterwards some hot showers (a few even pampered themselves in the jacuzzi’s…) were enjoyed and then some light refreshments were devoured! 🙂 A fantastic day out was had by all! Some great photos on Facebook here
Thanks again to everyone who helped to organise our event, thanks to all our club members who cycled, keeping the club colours flying high and thanks to all the visiting clubs from around the country who were with us on the day making our tour a huge success…
