Club Notes
Summer time is finally here although with the weather we’ve had over the weekend that’s very debatable. Storm force winds and rain, typical Irish weather. Our racers were not taking part in any open races this weekend so we had 6 of our members out training and braving the elements on Saturday morning. Not the nicest of mornings to be out on the bikes but they took on this years Visit Nenagh Classic A3 route, a 114km spin with plenty of hills to contend with. The lads put in a very hard spin with alot of efforts in preparation for the upcoming race VNC on April 19th which is a big event in the open race calendar and as its a local race everyone wants to do well in it. The stormy weather was always going to be a problem making a tough spin even tougher but all in all more miles in the legs, so very well done to all who were out keep up the good work.
Despite another miserable stormy Sunday morning, four members braved the elements… This weeks planned route was the first half of the upcoming Kildangan Centenary Challenge but due to the conditions it was to be cut short. Everyone started out together heading towards Puckane but two members Pat and Joey turned for home early as the club was kindly asked at the last minute to help with stewarding the 10km CBS run and had to be back before it started. Meanwhile Liam Chadwick and Joe Kelly continued on but Joe unfortunately got a puncture in Coolbawn, he said luckily he had enough in the repair kit to fix it. When it was sorted off they went again but low and behold, in Ballinderry, suffered yet another puncture so had to call for reinforcements this time from fellow member Mike Molamphy who was luckily home at the time and gave him a loan of a front wheel so he could finish his spin. Both riders turned in Ballinderry and cycled back to Nenagh, a total of 40km. Well done to those who were out.
From next Tuesday the 31st of March our summer schedule of training and club racing is starting back… (Finally I hear you say! 😀 It’s been a long winter) so firstly the Tuesday evening training spins return. As the evenings are still short, for the time being please bring lights and hi viz clothing with you and the length and choice of route will be based around weather and available light and will be decided on the evening spins start at 6.30pm sharp leaving from Moynans Bike shop.
Also our much anticipated club racing season makes it’s return with a fun 2-up TT event to start with on Thursday 2nd April. Sign on is at Moynan’s Bike shop at 6:15 pm. Anybody who holds a club race licence(Limited Competition) is very welcome to join in with these races. There is always a very friendly atmosphere and it’s a great way to get to know fellow members and get a taste of what the racing scene is all about. So come out and support your club if you are about… go on and give it a try :)…More details on the club racing is available on our Club Racing page.
The club have been asked to mention a very worthy cause “Rape Crisis Midwest” who are organizing an event “Walk in Her Shoes” which is a fundraiser that asks men to walk an honorary mile in women’s high-heeled shoes in order to raise awareness around the topic of sexual violence but everyone is welcome to join in. The starting place for this event is at Hibernian Inn, Nenagh and kicks off at 2pm on Saturday the 11th April. To take part in the walk the cost is €10 pp. There will be various activities in Quinten’s Way after the walk. It is very important that we have some of the Wheelers there to represent the club in the walk as there will be other sports clubs and groups being represented on the day. So if you are about on the day lads, your support would be greatly appreciated… I’m sure the ladies wouldn’t mind lending you some high heels for the walk 🙂
We are also asking any club members who are available on the 19th of April to help with the stewarding of the Visit Nenagh Classic race. Also we were asked by the North Tipperary sports partnership to help out with the family fun cycle that also takes place on the same day as the race. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
With the way the year is going, we wont feel it until our annual club tour is here … It takes place on Sunday May 17th. Over the years our tour has become a very popular event in the sportives calendar. We will be advertising this regulary until the day arrives. Keep this date free in your diary.
The usual spins will continue next weekend so keep an eye out on the website and Facebook for updates during the week.
