Club notes

On Friday night last the 20th of February we held week four of our six week spinning class that is being held in Busters Bootcamp over Moynans Bike shop. It was a tough session with some technical difficulties causing the group to have to restart a video so everyone got even more value for money!! There was some serious perspiration… or it could have been tears… we’re not quite sure! čśÇ Well done everyone.

On Saturday morning our race group did a recce on this years proposed Visit Nenagh Classic A4 route with an extra few kms included to make up the testing 100km spin which had  plenty of long drags to test the legs. The group left Nenagh and cycled out to the Silvermines turn off on the old Limerick road where they rode on at a steady pace to the Silvermines, from there they continued to Dolla where they turned right and put in a hard effort up the climb to Templederry. They were able to recover on the descent and at Curabaha cross they turned left on to the Thurles road where again there was another hard effort put in going up the Kilnafinch climb. The surface of the road was not the best and it was very narrow but it would be the ideal place in a race situation for a breakaway to occur with a good fast descent to follow. The group then arrived out at Grennanstown cross and turned right into Toomevara where again they turned right heading to Dunkerrin, Shinrone, Cloughjordan before returning to Nenagh keeping up a steady pace. Keep up the good work everyone.

On Sunday we had club representation with two members Eoin Woods and Nanno Vuyk racing in Loughrea, Co. Galway. The miserable start to the day didn’t deter the lads from competing in the race as they were both eager to get their season started.

Nanno in action in the A4 race in Loughrea

Nanno unfortunately hit the deck after 25km into the race, there was a nasty turn during a descent and unfortunately the rear wheel slid out. Thankfully he was okay and continued to do well after the fall. He finished and has his first race of the season under his belt so very well done Nanno. Eoin had a very respectable 9th place in the A4 event and was very happy with his result. It goes to show that all the hard winter training is paying off. Keep up the good work and well done to both riders.

It’s nearly time for our Quiz night!!

It will be held in the Dapp Inn, Nenagh this Friday night the 27th of February starting at 9pm. Its a great night out and great fun. It gives everyone in the club a chance to meet and have a chat outside of cycling.

A table of four is 20 euro and we would ask our members to bring along spot prizes for the night.  So start getting your general knowledge training started and the thinking caps on.
