CLUB HILL CLIMB CHAMPION FOR 2013 IS BENNY DELANEY

It’s a long time since a club race, never mind a championship has been so close. With some people away, the field was down a little but still a good group turned out for the hill climb which was from just before the bridge at Newtown to the top of Portroe Hill – a distance of 2.9 miles and a hard pull. The fastest man on the night was Liam Callaghan with a scorching time of 9.36. Dan Hogan took second while Brian O’Neill was only two seconds behind him in third. But when time adjustments were made, the fun started! Two shared third place – Liam Callaghan and Mikey Connors and with a gap of one second, two shared second place – John O’Carroll and Brian O’Neill and with the winner just 8 seconds ahead and that was Benny Delaney, taking his second championship this season and very well done to him – and to all who rode!
