There was a slight change of plan Thursday evening with the scheduled championship road race which was due to take place from Carrigahorig to Puckane, it had to be postponed due to roadworks on that particular stretch of road but not to worry we said we wouldn’t like to disappoint anyone so we held the Hill climb instead, as you can imagine everyone was delighted at the prospect… 🙂
It was a race that didn’t disappoint and with twelve members out to contest the race it was going to be a good night. As usual we had handicapped groups on the night John Caulfield was set off first then chasing on behind him were John Foote, Eva Moynan, Peter Moynan and Stuart Witts, in the next group there was John O’Carroll, Nanno Vuyk, Kevin Byrne, Charlie Hogan and finally in the last group Pat Bergin, David Kyle and Dan Hogan. This weeks route was Birdhill, left over the four sisters, back to Birdhill, left towards Nenagh, left at the yellowbridge pub and the finish line up the top of Coum, a distance of 26km.
All the groups were setting a very fast pace from the off and all managed to stay together in their groups until close to the start of the climb where eventually a split was bound to happen with riders being strung out along the way. It was then every person for themselves on the climb where, in the end, John Foote proved he was king of the mountain on the night and took a very well deserved win with Dan Hogan in second and David Kyle taking the third spot on the podium. No one said it was going to be easy, so a huge well done to all who raced on the night and big congrats to John.
A special thanks to Jan for time keeping as usual and to our marshals Mike Sheedy and Connor Hannon for keeping everyone safe on the roads, Selina for the photographs which you can see here and also to Mike Molamphy who also took some great pics of the night which can be seen here and also to Eoin & little Lauren Woods who came out to cheer on the lads and lady on the evening.
