RESULT OF THE MOUNTAINS CLASSIC
Thursday evening was damp and drizzily and humid – not ideal racing weather but despite those drawbacks, we had a large sign-on and an excellent race, which started, after much hillclimbing along the way, at Birdhill and finished at the top of the Slate Quarries – a distance of 9 miles. The race winner and the fastest man on the night was Pat Bergin while Liam Callaghan was second in both categories. Benny Delaney took an excellent third place in the race while Tommy Hanrahan hung on to get third fastest. Mention must also be made of Ross O’Meara, who having started before the fast men, managed to hang on to them when passed and stayed with them to take fourth place. Well done Ross! And Ciaran Moran also put in a much improved performance as did Charlie Hogan. John Caulfield showed us another stunning performance when he crested the hill and very well done to him! Many thanks to all those who assisted and our photographers, Julie, Selina, Tracy and Vic and of course a big thanks to our motor bike marshal, Mike Sheedy. It was also great to see Catherine and Mike O’Keeffe at the finish with their daughter. Mike is recovering from an injury received on his way to a race three weeks ago.
